Duet
Duet is a not-yet-published memoir about the journey shared with my son through the challenges and discoveries involved in his mental illness, addiction and recovery.
My life as a dancer and later as a parent was a journey from insecurity and doubt to self-confidence and clarity. When I became a single mother at the age of 42, I had no idea that the duet which had just begun between my son and me would someday escalate into a complicated battle with his mental illness and addiction. My memoir, Duet, is an intimate account of our collaboration which both challenges and strengthens our relationship. As my son had to take responsibility for his own recovery, I too was on a voyage of self-discovery.
Holding Her Hand
I was challenged to individuate from my mother when a diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia invited me to step out of her shadows and discover my true identity. This not-yet-published memoir weaves together my mother's illness, her family history and my journey towards self-awareness.
This is the story of the deep, but complex bond between a mother and her daughter, and how we ultimately move forward after profound loss.
